Happy birthday to the ridiculously talented guy who has outstood worldwide in the music industry as one of the founders of the most influential stoner rock band, Kyuss, of the frenetic and unpredictable Queens of the Stone Age and of the fun and nasty Eagles of Death Metal.
Josh Homme, born on May 17, 1973 in California, turns 40 today and if it were not for him, none of this would have meaning.
In addition to the projects mentioned above, Homme also released several albums with partnership of various musicians from the Palm Desert scene, creating The Desert Sessions, in which he produced his own works and also other artists from the project.
Josh has several aliases - J.Ho., The Ginger Elvis, Baby Duck, Zombie Zebra, Carlo Von Sexron, which are the most known of many others.
He also has an incredible sense of humor, sometimes acid and ironic. Josh is not limited when it comes to his answers on interviews; he’s direct, honest and even funny, as well as a conservative guy that keeps his career apart from his personal life.
Josh grew up in California and was not one of the best students in his school. He had his first band in his teenager years, called Autocracy, taking as inspirational influences, bands like Pink Floyd, Pentagram, Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin and Black Flag.
At fourteen, along with his school friends, he founded the Katzenjammer (he was a guitarist), which later became known as Sons of Kyuss and after the first EP released, the name was shortened to Kyuss.
After the Kyuss phenomenon in the 90s and the band splitting, Homme joined the Screaming Trees as a touring guitarist. After that, he founded Gamma Ray, which became the Queens of the Stone Age in 1997. A band with an unique style, but with his drive.
Throughout his career, Homme was creating other projects, producing different artists and making great music alliance. His curriculum has important names such as PJ Harvey, Twiggy Ramirez, Ben Shepherd, John McBain, Josh Freese, Mondo Generator, Foo Fighters, Fatso Jetson, Mark Lanegan Band, Trent Reznor, Masters of Reality, Millionaire, Wellwater Conspiracy, Unkle, Primal Scream, Melissa Auf der Maur, Paz Lenchantin, Death from Above 1979, Earthlings?, Mastodon, Peaches, The Strokes, Local H, Biffy Clyro, The Prodigy, The Hives, Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, Dean Ween, Scissor Sisters, Glen Campbell, Jack White and so on. Apart from his collaborations in compositions for movie soundtracks and television shows.
In 2009 Josh was alongside Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones, making part of the power trio Them Crooked Vultures.
He recently joined the casting of the movie about the famous recording studio Sound City, and also recorded the song “The Last Train” and the production of the album “Hell Comes To Your Heart”, from Mondo Generator, released in 2012.
Happy Birthday, Josh Homme! Have a blast!
